I’ve been lucky enough to be involved in the WDAY Honor Flight program since 2007. Our goal is to send area WWII and Korean War Veterans to Washington, D.C. free of charge to see their memorials. It’s definitely a group effort, involving a dedicated committee of volunteers including one of the best: Dave Rice. Dave was involved in Honor Flight nearly from Day 1 and I learned quickly he was the guy to go to in a crisis. He stayed calm and helped our committee work through problems with careful thought and consideration. I’m lucky to have gotten to know him.
But in all the years I’ve known him, I didn’t know he was a gardener. But then one day, he posted on Facebook that his American Flag garden was starting to take shape. Well, I was intrigued enough to ask our features editor, Sherri Richards, if I could do a story on him. She agreed.
Dave agreed to let me come out to his lovely North River, North Dakota home. Check out the story I wrote which tells you all about it. What else don’t I know about you Dave?!
